We are holding another of our popular music-evenings in the church at Rose Ash. The date is 10th November and the doors open at 6pm. As usual, we aim to be finished by about 7.45 to 8pm.

The theme will be old and new arrangements, variations and transcriptions of well-known classical compositions.

Many early arrangements have become classics in their own right; Brahmsโ€™ variations on a theme by Haydn, the St Anthony Chorale, is timeless masterpiece. Others have come and gone in a flash of forgotten, synthesized, 1970s-mediocrity.

That said many โ€œmodernโ€ arrangements are quite excellent, the product of highly regarded musicians in their own right. The Jacques Loussier trio for example, or the late-seventies band Sky, derided by some, which was started by John Williams, considered to be one of the very greatest classical guitarists, together with a group of musicians whose musical CVs, classical and pop, are astonishing. Equally wonderful are choral groups like Voces8, whose arrangement of Elgarโ€™s Nimrod is exquisite.

This will be a terrific evening, full of fun, exciting and powerful music, played through a really good stereo system with up to eight vintage British speakers.

As usual, drinks and nibbles will be served and we will have a retiring collection, this time in aid of the bell-restoration fund at Rose Ash Church, so that we can attract new bell-ringers back to a church that used to have one of the best ringing-teams in Devon.

Please come along and support this evening !
