Music evening 29th July 2024 at 6.30PM

Music recital in the church, Monday 29th July, 6.30pm.

In a slight change to the usual format, Orlando Jopling, a leading cellist and musical director, will play three of Bach’s cello suites.

The evening will celebrate the completion of the repairs to the gable coping-stones, a project that has involved a year of fund-raising from national and local trusts and foundations, as well as through events such as this. However, we are still about £10,000 short!

The recital.

A few years ago, Orlando embarked on his Cello Pilgrimage Project, playing a series of recitals in small churches like ours, raising money for their maintenance and restoration.  Although that specific project has ended (after 104 concerts!), Orlando still plays in churches to help raise funds.

Orlando’s style is informal, light and relaxed. He is absolutely not a “prima-donna” performer and will talk to us about the instrument and music before playing, setting the scene and making the evening more fun and enjoyable.

The concert is due to start at 6.30pm and there will be the usual small-eats and wine served. There will be a short interval after about 30 minutes. The church should be warm – but do bring cushions for the pews!  Dress, as usual, is very informal and comfortable.

We hope you can come to the evening, and also help to support our parish church by making a contribution when you leave.
